My Story…
Migraine has deeply impacted my family and so many others. I’ve had migraine since my childhood. I’ve also been a caregiver of immediate family members living with daily chronic migraine since their childhood. Imagine watching those you love suffer from this debilitating neurological disease and migraine pain 24/7 and 365 days a year, knowing that there still isn’t a cure and that you can’t wave a magic wand and take away their chronic pain.
This largely “invisible” neurological disease affects daily things that most people take for granted like work, school, plans with family and friends, and often missing milestone moments and day to day activities due to this disease. Some days are simply lost due to having to stay in a dark quiet room or in bed, despite our migraine “tool kit” of medications and trying to live a healthy lifestyle.
Our story is uniquely ours, but unfortunately isn’t uncommon to those living with migraine. Migraine affects 1 in 4 households in the U.S. but is still among the least funded diseases by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our personal experiences with migraine and these staggering statistics are why I’m so passionate about bringing awareness and advocating for this disease to help raise awareness, increase funding for migraine research, and advocate for policy changes and increased support.
I’ve been involved with Miles for Migraine events over the past 10 years and have directly seen the positive impacts this organization makes. This is an organization that is making a difference to support migraine research, helping to provide training for new headache specialists at Georgetown Med and other headache clinics across the country (so that there are more specialists to serve the large population affected by migraine), and advocating and providing support to those impacted by migraine.
We are thankful for any support YOU can offer to invest in a future where migraine is fully treatable and does not keep people from living their daily lives and achieving their dreams.
